IN “PURSUIT” OF WINE…

Updated: May 9, 2023

Ten years ago when I started this blog, Instagram did not exist. Twitter was the primary social platform where I began posting the majority of my winery shenanigans, if I posted anything ‘socially’ outside of my blog at all. So, who would have thought that today I would be part of an amazing group of social media wine “influencers”? I would’ve never guessed it.

And, last night I had the opportunity to meet some of these influencers at an intimate wine and food pairing evening hosted by The Pursuit Wine Bar & Kitchen in Washington, DC. The owners invited a few of us to check out their new digs – recently relocating from a few blocks away to a swanky, rustic and roomy new corner spot at 1025 H. Street, NE.

The evening started off with a delectable sparkling Rose’ paired with the most amazing cheese board I’ve had in a very long time. We then worked our way through three very unique white wines with an assortment of delicious appetizers. My favorite of the three was the Vicentin Blanc de Malbec – an Argentinian white wine made from red grapes. I went home with two bottles. The appetizers including marinated olives, meatballs, scallops and brussel sprouts.

Then, we moved into the reds. My favorite of these three hand-picked wines for us was the Villa Ambrosia Montepulciano d’Abruzzo. I’ve had an affinity lately for Multepulciano wines which come from a very small hilltop province of Tuscany, Italy. They are light and airy but have an earthy bite for those palates who like their bold red wines (i.e.: ME!). We enjoyed the red wines with two homemade pasta dishes that were just simply out of this world.

The one prominent thing I will say about their food is that everything was fresh and lightly seasoned. I am not a big seasoning person (unless it’s garlic – I love my garlic!!) so it’s really awesome when you have dishes in which the flavor of the food actually shines – and not the saltiness or butter and oils that they are typically cooked in.

I can’t say enough about the unique selection of wines that the owners handpicked for us to try. You just have to go and sip for yourself. And, did I mention their new venue is just the perfect place to gather with friends, go on a date, or just hang out at the bar? It’s the perfect neighborhood spot. And, although I live in Virginia, I can see myself making The Pursuit my ‘home away from home hangout’.
